Antique Heirloom Day (18 August 2007)
On August 18, 2007 the Mulgrave & Derry Historical Society
hosted an Antique Heirloom Day at the parsonage of St. Matthew Lutheran
Church, Inlet, Quebec. The idea behind this event was to have a
display of heirlooms from original settlers of the area. The parsonage
inside was decorated beautifully with a variety of heirlooms, which
included glass, china, crystal, oil lamps and much more. Outside
there was a used book sale and a new book sale. Three new books
-- “More about Mulgrave & Derry” by Alice Biehler
Burich. Mrs. Burich graciously donated the sales of this book to
the Historical Society; “The Thurso Fish and Game Club “Domaine
Joli-Coeur” 1904-2004” by Jocelyn Ghent Mallett and
“Tales of a Lumberjack” by Rupert Last. Outside exhibits
included farm implements and wood working tools. Probably the most
successful event of the day was the appraisal of items conducted
by Len Depuis . Many brought their cherished items for appraisal
and left realizing that they were the owners of valuable possessions.
Others were told what their item would have been used for. A huge
thanks to Len who captivated everyone’s attention. The entire
event was enjoyed by many right down to the sausages, hot dogs and
home made dessert. |
