Frequently asked question. Where is Mulgrave & Derry?

In the Province of Quebec, approximately 25 kilometres north east of the Buckingham sector of Gatineau. Please look at the general map below.

The Historical Society was created by a group of citizens in 2001 after the Millenium celebration featured posters displaying the history of various families from the area. Historical plaques were also affixed to three sites as part of the Millenium Celebration..

The Society is interested in the preservation of historical landmarks, and coordinating events with other municipalities and historical societies in the surrounding areas. We are also interested in hosting various events related to recognizing the diverse backgrounds of our ancestors and developing a network of communiction within the community.

"... The government of Canada hoping in vain to stem the exodus of these young people to the West and the USA, reinstated the land-grant system. ... A French-Canadian or an immigrant who wanted to be a farmer was offered a grant of land in a remote area where the soil was typically poor and the living conditions difficult. One of these remote areas was the present Mulgrave and Derry. New settlers soon found they had to work for logging companies as lumber-jacks to make ends meet." written by Alice Biehler Burich, a millenium celebration, Mulgrave and Derry, September 3, 2000.
